Linux Foundation Energy Restructures Project Ecosystem, Welcoming New Members

LF Energy announced several major initiatives at the LF Energy Summit in Brussels, including the formation of Special Interest Groups (SIGs), completion of security audits for key projects, election of new board members, and addition of new member organizations.

Data Standards and Tooling SIG

The LF Energy Technical Advisory Council restructured its project categorization to create Special Interest Groups. The Battery Data Alliance joins the Data Standards and Tooling SIG, alongside Carbon Data Specification, OpenEEMeter, OpenSynth, Super Advanced Meter, and TROLIE.

These groupings enable better collaboration among projects operating in similar areas of the energy technology stack, facilitate best practice sharing, and promote compatibility across tools.

New Members

LF Energy welcomed several new members including:

  • Hydro-Québec — the foundation's first North American electrical utility member
  • Welotec — industrial technology company
  • Artelys — specializing in optimization, modeling, and data science
  • Eindhoven University of Technology — contributing to Power Grid Model and other projects

“We are pleased to see support for open source software, hardware, and standards growing to drive the energy transition forward. It is essential that all stakeholders work together collaboratively.”

— Alex Thornton, Executive Director, LF Energy
